On Monday, 2nd December, the Etone Exceeding Excellence programme took Key Stage 3 pupils to the Christmas Lectures at Warwick University. Pupils were fully engaged in Live Lab prior to the lectures in which they took part in experiments and demonstrations to win badges in Science, Maths and Engineering.
The main lectures were a real treat learning from a Physicist / Chemist how to win at balloon keepy-uppy; then estimating how many presents would fill Butterworth Hall using Fermi estimations and finishing up with a volcanologist explaining how volcanoes function, their benefits and how to protect communities who live near a volcano. One final experiment answered the question ‘does a pencil conduct electricity?’
Pupils really enjoyed the evening and developed their knowledge and skills.
