We are thrilled to announce the completion of a £7.5 million project in partnership with Nuneaton & Bedworth Council, resulting in the brand new 23-classroom teaching block at Etone College.
Named The Tanner Building, in honour of the school’s first Headmistress, this state-of-the-art facility is designed to provide the best possible learning environment for current and future generations of Etone College pupils.
Managed by Matrix Academy Trust, Alcema, and FSL Projects, this project stands as a beacon of sustainability. The building features energy-efficient LED lighting, controlled heating management systems, solar panels, and specialised agricultural landscaping, all contributing to the Trust’s commitment to achieving Net Carbon Zero by 2035. This initiative not only enhances the Trusts educational infrastructure but also supports our environmental sustainability goals.
We are looking forward to our pupils being able to make full use of the building and its facilities in September 2024 when we have our grand opening.
Etone College has been over-admitting pupils since 2018 at the request of Warwickshire School’s Admissions. The school is now significantly over net capacity and needs additional buildings so it can increase their Published Admission Number to 180 and maintain the high academic standards it currently offers, from Year 7 through to Year 13.
The new classroom block, costing an estimated £6.6 million in total, will allow the very popular school to meet the needs of local families whilst helping Warwickshire County Council meet its duty to secure sufficient school places. While the Council is contributing £4.6 million, the additional £2 million required will be covered by the school’s reserves.
Without the new build, the lack of capacity for growth within the current footprint of the school would prevent it from meeting the needs of local families because of space restrictions. Having been awarded planning permission by Warwickshire County Council for the new classroom accommodation, the school are intending to start the new build on site after Easter 2023, taking approximately 12-14 months to construct and handover.
The new building will be more energy efficient for future winter resilience, reducing energy consumption and carbon efficiency, utilising modern sustainability concepts, with old facilities replaced by modern education environments.
The additional classroom accommodation will transform Etone College and ensure the estate is fit for the future, supporting the school leaders in ensuring an exceptional education for every pupil.
Etone College is a proud member of Matrix Academy Trust, whose core value is Education Without Exception. Their bottom line is: if it wouldn’t be good enough for our relatives, it’s not good enough for our pupils.
