A Level Results Day 2023

On Thursday morning on the 17th August Etone College was happy to welcome our Sixth Form pupils collecting their exam results for Results Day 2023. As always, we are extremely proud of the results and progress our students have made.

For many of our Year 13 pupils the results they achieved are from their first live exam series after the disruption caused by the pandemic. We were impressed at how well our students handled themselves throughout the process, showing their self-belief and being supportive of one another being the living embodiment of our Etone Values.

However,  after the initial summer break it was time for results to be revealed. Across the cohort our students have made impressive progress with pupils achieving in line with expectations and many exceeding their targets. As a result the average grade our pupils achieved was increased from last year, showing the success our students and by extension our Sixth Form are enjoying.

This includes our Year 12 pupils who we would like to congratulate who have completed examinations and earned AS/ Level 3 Certificates this year. We are excited to continue your journey as you complete your courses in Year 13.

As for Year 13 all of our students are leaving Etone to go on to secure and promising next steps from a diverse range of Universities and Apprenticeships. We would like to share some of our success stories below:

Over I our Football Academy our students have matched their success on the pitch with some truly fantastic results and securing placements at prestigious sporting experts Loughborough University.

We know however, there are not always happy reactions to the results we open. Whilst we are extremely proud of these results, we continue to work with our pupils to ensure that they are supported onto the next step of their path.

To all of our students we would like to say if you require future support from us, please contact us. Remember you are now Etone Alumni and that is a club you have joined for life. Gold for Etone

We are delighted to announce that Etone College has achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2022/23 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

In order to achieve the Gold level our Perform department have worked hard to provide enriching opportunities both as part of our classroom curriculum and extracurricular provision. Whilst there are too many sporting success across the year to mention we would like to share some of the highlights:

  • Development of our Girls Football Academy
  • Boys Football Academy topping their league and winning the WBA Cup for a second year in a row
  • Pupils taking part in charity fundraising through Staff vs Students sport
  • Exciting trips and visits including from Stuart Attwell (Premier League Referee)
  • Taking part in Go Lead’s: Disney Festival of Football
  • Our Year 12’s joining in with Active in Mind to provide support for wellbeing through sport

With many of our pupils competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible. This really does show the resilience and teamwork required as part of our Employability Skills. Additionally the sportsmanship shown by all of our pupils embodies the Etone Values.

We are extremely proud of the hard work and dedication our Perform team have put into the provision this year and would like to congratulate them and all of our pupils in achieving this award.

Year 8 Science of Animals

On Thursday our Year 8 pupils had the chance to explore the delights of Twycross Zoo as part of Science’s Enrichment Week provision.

The trip was an enjoyable one for staff and pupils as they had the chance to get to meet the animals and learn about their natural habitats.

With Zebras, Penguins, Giraffes and Gorillas there was something for everyone. Although we were worried the zookeepers would mistake our pupils for escaped animals, luckily this was not the case and the pupils were complemented by Twycross staff for showing all Etone Values across the day.

All that was left was for a visit to the gift shop for some goodies and for a safe journey home. Thank you to Twycross for hosting.

Capital Calling

On Wednesday a group of Year 7,8 and 9 pupils travelled to our capital city, London for a jam packed journey through time as part of the History Departments Enrichment Week provision.

First up was the coach ride, whilst it was clearly an early start for some, as the sun rose it was great to see the landmarks across the country as we headed nearer to the ‘Hub of Britain’.

Arriving in the big city, our pupils departed the coach and stretched their legs before heading to our first stop, The Natural History Museum. As the pupils delved into the delights of the natural world they were amazed to see first hand how the world around them has developed so drastically. A particular highlight being the mammals on display. Whilst the elephant was impressive the whales were gigantic and the pupils were able to make links between History and Science, something we know Mr Clinton and the Science team would be proud off.

Next up on day 1 was a visit to Buckingham Palace, the official residence of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The pupils were in awe of the splendour of it all and very impressed by the dedication and resilience shown by the guardsmen. One pupil considered “They would make a good Etone Learner with their skills.” Something that of course would delight Mr Smith back at Etone, as pupils reflect on the skills and values of Etone and how they fit within the wider world.

In the afternoon the pupils enjoyed a walk in the park and an ice cream courtesy of Miss Kelly-Smith before heading to Bella Itallia where the group enjoyed a two course dinner. We were particularly pleased to be complimented on the way our pupils upheld themselves once again showing our Etone Values in action.

With pupils excited and energised from their meal there was just enough time for a very competitive game of bowling, before heading back to the hotel for a well deserved rest.

Day 2 – The Tower

After a hearty breakfast with the sun shining down, our group of ‘Londoners’ for the week arrived at the Tower of London where they explored the history of the building and it’s importance in our country’s foundations. Whilst there the group were encouraged to take part in an impromptu performance by the Tower Players who shared the story of trials and monarchs of old.

In the afternoon our pupils had the chance for some more sight seeing with Tower Bridge on the map for a final group photo before getting back on the bus for the journey home. Thank you London for such an amazing time.

Year 7 Building the Future

On Tuesday part of our Maths Enrichment Week activities involved our Year 7 pupils showing their Resilience and Numeracy Employability Skills as they took part in a challenge to build the tallest towers out of straws and masking tape.

The groups were very competitive with House Points on offer and Mathematics glory. As a result there were some extremely impressive efforts including our very own ‘Etone State Building’ inspired by the ‘Empire State Building’. With the clear winner below it was great to see the enthusiasm for Maths our pupils have. We can’t wait for the tomorrow.

Etone at Bernieres-sur-Mer

On Monday a group of Etone pupils started their journey to France to Bernieres-sur-Mer where they will spend Enrichment Week taking part in activities designed to give them a full taste of French culture. With a midnight meet up prior to departure our pupils had the chance to wave goodbye to parents and families before getting some rest on the coach drive to the ferry. With the group in good spirits the journey over was a relaxing experience in the sunshine with some truly astonishing sites on the horizon.

After arriving at the border the pupils had a quick stop off in Behen to practice speaking French, recharge and climb to the top of the viewing tower for a 360 view of the surrounding towns.

Once our pupils arrived at their home for the week it was time to check their bags in before heading to the beach to enjoy the sun set and relax with the excitement of the week still ahead. Stay tuned for more.

On day two of our French expedition our pupils woke up early to a traditional French breakfast provided by our hosts before heading to a local cheese factory to see how some of French’s finest exports are made. Did you know that France produces more that 400 different varieties of cheese. During the visit the pupils enjoyed trying four of the most famous Normandy cheeses and were taken behind the scenes to see how they were made. We know the pupils really enjoyed it and we were glad to Brie a part of it!

After this there was a visit to Festyland themepark where pupils were able to enjoy going on all of the rides including rollercoasters, pirate ships and even spinning wheel! We hear it was a WHEEL-Y good time.

All that was left was for our pupils to enjoy another relaxing evening on the beach re-creating our ‘Beach Pic’ from Enrichment 2022.

On day three our pupils woke up to a slight gust of wind as the travelled to some of the more poignant places on their journey. Pupils had the chance to roam the Arromanches landing beach, practising their French skills and buying souvenirs. There were sombre moments a pupils had the chance to consider the sacrifices made on those beaches and showed their respect, displaying all Etone Values in the process.

Finally it was time to head off to the Bayeux Tapestry, the famous work of art which depicts the 1066 conquest of Britain by William, Duke of Normandy. Our pupils had the chance to spot key events including the famous Battle of Hastings which they were able to make links back to their History lessons. We know Miss Kelly-Smith would be proud.

On the final day we awoke to a wonderful French breakfast including pastries and brioche before heading to the coach for the long journey home. With a pitstop in the wonderful Honfleur there was a chance to get some last minute souvenirs and relax in the glorious sunshine before making the way to the ferry.

With a safe crossing it was time to head back to Etone College where our families were waiting. Thank you to all who took part in the trip and for being the very best Etoner’s you can be.
